Itinerary

We will start the free tour of Baiona at the indicated time at the arches of Paseo Ribeira in front of the Tourist Office.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           

First of all, we will go for a walk around the Mount Boi. On this hill we will see the thick walls and battlements of the castle of Monterreal, an imposing medieval fortress built to protect this strategic point on the Galician coast. The site also houses a monumental hotel, the Parador del Conde de Gondomar.

As we walk through this area of the town, we will learn about the history of La Pinta. The arrival in the village of this Christopher Columbus’ caravel Columbus brought the news of the discovery of the New World. We will also go back in time to remember the feared incursions in the Galician coasts of several corsairs and pirates, such as the famous Francis Drake.

We will continue the route discovering the story of a mysterious character called Pedro Madruga. Afterwards, we will go to the old town of Baiona. There we will pass by the historic houses of Lorenzo Correo and Ceta and we will discover why this town in Pontevedra was considered one of the jewels of the Crown.

Finally, two hours later, we will conclude our tour of Baiona by returning to the meeting point.
