Arrecife is a city and municipality of Spain located on the island of Lanzarote, in the Canary Islands. Its name comes from the coral reef that surrounds the island and was formed by solidified lava. The city is the administrative and commercial center of Lanzarote, and has a marina and an airport. Casa de la Cultura Agustín de la Hoz is a cultural center located in Arrecife, Spain. It was inaugurated in 2002 and since then has hosted numerous cultural events and activities. Its main mission is to disseminate Canarian culture through workshops, exhibitions, concerts and other events. It also houses an important library specializing in Canarian literature.


San Gabriel Castle
The Castillo de San Gabriel is located in Arrecife, Spain. It was built in the 16th century as part of the island’s defense against pirates. The castle is located on a small hill near the sea, and has two round towers and a drawbridge. The Castillo de San Gabriel is now a museum and a popular place to visit.

Itinerary

We will meet at the
Arrecife Gran Hotel & Spa
at the appointed time to embark on a free tour of Arrecife, the capital of Lanzarote.. History and an immense cultural heritage are waiting for you.

We will start with a walk through the Canary Islands Park, located very close to the Casino Club Nautico.You will fall in love with the view! Then we will pass by the
former Parador Nacional de Turismo
of Lanzarote, designed by architect Marrero Regalado, which opened in 1950.

The next stop will be in front of the monument to Blas Cabrera Felipe, an important Spanish physicist. We will tell you their story! We will also walk through the José Ramírez Cerdá Park and enter the Casa de la Cultura Agustín de la Hoz, where we will see some of the first artistic interventions of the famous César Manrique.

Afterwards, we will walk along
Real Street
until we reach the historic building of El Mercadillo. Here you will have 20 minutes of free time to enjoy a snack. The free tour will also take us to the islet of the castle of San Gabriel, a perfect place to begin to delve into the history of the town, marked by piracy in the Canary Islands.

After contemplating the fortress, we will approach the
bridge of Las Bolas
the Town Hall of Arrecife and we will go to the
Las Palmas Square
presided by the church of San Ginés. We will contemplate the details of the main religious building of Arrecife, as well as the buildings that accompany it.

In the final stretch of the guided tour, we will explore the picturesque neighborhood of La Puntilla, where you will find the Rincón del Aguarecidoand continue until we reach the Charco de San Ginés. There awaits us the statue the statue dedicated to the parranda Los Buches! We will discover everything related to this carnival tradition.

After a two and a half hour tour, we will say goodbye in this special seafaring corner.
